*RE: EZEUKWU WILL SUPPORT THOSE WHO SUPPORT HER — A REBUTTAL ON BEHALF OF EZEUKWU PEOPLE*
The recent publication attempting to speak for the entire Ezeukwu community does not reflect the general position of our people. It is a selective and misleading narrative that ignores the verifiable interventions of Hon. IBEKWE Nnamdi Chimdi (OziomaChi), the member representing Bende North State Constituency in the Abia State House of Assembly. Ezeukwu people know those who have stood by them, and no amount of political propaganda can erase that record.
Even before becoming a member of the Abia State House of Assembly, Hon. IBEKWE demonstrated genuine concern for Ezeukwu. He personally intervened on an impassable section of road near the Ezeukwu market, went to the site himself and ensured that the place was sand-filled and put in order for the easy movement of our people.
He also visited Amuta, observed that a hall was under construction, and made a commitment to support the project. That promise was fulfilled through funding handed over to the Amuta Union.
These were not campaign-season gestures. They were acts of service rendered when Hon. Ibekwe held no public office and had no political appointment to protect. They showed a man who understood the needs of Ezeukwu and responded with action.
Since becoming the member representing Bende North State Constituency, Hon. Ibekwe has continued to justify the confidence reposed in him.
When the Eze of Isiala Autonomous Community and other stakeholders approached him over the deplorable condition of the Ifeama Bridge linking Amangwu and other communities, he took the matter up with the office of the Deputy Governor. Through that engagement, GODA came into the matter. It was established that the Ifuama Bridge could not be effectively worked on without first addressing the Eze Bridge. Work consequently commenced on the Eze Bridge, including an additional road of at least one kilometre from the Eze Bridge.
This is practical representation: identifying a community need, engaging the appropriate government machinery and ensuring that work begins where it can deliver real relief to our people.
Hon. Ibekwe’s support for Ezeukwu women has also been consistent. In 2023, after attending a meeting of Ezeukwu women and observing that many were seated on the bare floor, he donated seats to them.
During the visit of the Commissioner for Women Affairs for a women-empowerment programme under the OziomaChi Widows Empowerment Initiative, Ezeukwu women also benefited from garri-processing machines, which were handed over to the Ezeukwu Women Leader. This support strengthens women’s livelihoods and promotes economic self-reliance in our community.
In education, before the State Government’s mass recruitment and deployment of teachers, Hon. Ibekwe deployed teachers to schools in Ezeukwu, with the community complementing his effort. He also donated modern desks and chairs to Ezeukwu Primary School, improving the learning environment for our children.
Hon. IBEKWE has equally supported agriculture in Ezeukwu. He donated a tractor to the farmers’ cooperative, a meaningful intervention in a community where farming remains central to family income and food security.
These interventions—roads, education, women’s empowerment, farmers’ support and community infrastructure—may not always have been accompanied by loud publicity, but they touched real lives in Ezeukwu.
Ezeukwu respects every indigene and stakeholder, but no one has the right to speak for the community while remaining disconnected from its realities. Those behind the recent publication are interlopers who hardly visit home, do not possess their Permanent Voter Cards, and contribute nothing to the progress of Ezeukwu.
People who do not participate in the life of the community, do not vote, and do not contribute to its development cannot suddenly become the voice of Ezeukwu. Our community will not surrender its voice to political merchants and distant commentators.
Ezeukwu is not against any candidate, and we welcome everyone who genuinely seeks the progress of our community. But we reject the attempt by a few individuals to speak as though they represent the entire community.
The people of Ezeukwu know the difference between occasional visibility and consistent service. They know who came home, listened to them, supported their women, schools, farmers and communities, and acted even before seeking political office.
Hon. Nnamdi Chimdi Ibekwe, OziomaChi, has earned the trust of many Ezeukwu people through action, character and measurable service. Ezeukwu will continue to judge leadership's by verifiable results, not by bitterness, propaganda or manufactured narratives.
