On January 27, 2026, history echoed loudly in Bende Town as the people of the Umunna, joined by stakeholders and citizens from Bende Local Government Area, gathered in overwhelming numbers to endorse Governor Alex Chioma Otti, OFR, for a second term as Governor of Abia State come 2027. In the same unified and emphatic voice, the people also endorsed Hon. Ibekwe Nnamdi Chimdi – OziomaChi, the Member representing Bende North State Constituency, to return to the Abia State House of Assembly in 2027.


The event was graced by a mammoth crowd, a remarkable show of solidarity that cut across age, gender, and political affiliations. The sheer scale of attendance transformed the occasion into a powerful civic statement—one that underscored the people’s collective endorsement of leadership that delivers, listens, and serves with sincerity.


Adding great prestige to the occasion was the presence of distinguished personalities and government functionaries. Among the dignitaries in attendance were Engr. Ikechukwu Emetu, the Deputy Governor of Abia State; HIs Excellency Rt. Hon. Udo Okochukwu, former Governor of Abia State, Hon. Chijioke Nwankwo, the Deputy Chief of Staff; and Dcn. Uwabunkeonye Bassey, the Mayor of Bende Local Government Area. Also present was Mr. Peter Ekekwe, Deputy General Manager, Abia State Environmental Protection Agency (ASEPA), Ohafia Zone, alongside the Labour Party Chairman, Prof. Madu Awa, Elder Peter Agwu Okorie, Chairman of Ohanaeze Ndi Igbo World Wide Bende LGA, Ndi Eze Bende LGA ably led by HRM Eze Uwakwe Ukaegbu the traditional ruler of Amaofufe Igbere and Deputy Chairman of Abia State Council of Ndi Eze and numerous other respected political leaders, traditional stakeholders, party officials, and community influencers from across the zone.


The endorsement of Governor Alex Chioma Otti, OFR, was a reflection of deep-rooted appreciation for his transformational leadership, fiscal discipline, infrastructural renewal, and people-focused governance. Under his administration, Abia State has witnessed a renewed sense of purpose, accountability, and developmental clarity—qualities that have restored public confidence in governance and strengthened the social contract between government and the governed.
